About the Role

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Mechanical Engineer. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical systems, managing project implementation, ensuring system performance and compliance, and troubleshooting technical issues. The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with flexibility for some remote work.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized institution.

  • Professional Certification: Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or equivalent certification.

Experience:

  • Professional Experience: Typically 3-5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, including hands-on experience in design, development, and maintenance.

  • Project Experience: Experience with various mechanical systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, manufacturing processes, or machinery, depending on the specific industry focus.

Technical Skills:

  • Design Software: Proficiency in mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar tools.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanical design principles.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to perform detailed calculations, simulations, and analysis related to mechanical systems and components.

Key Competencies:

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues, optimizing system performance, and improving designs.

  • Attention to Detail: Precision in design, analysis, and documentation to ensure quality and compliance with standards.

  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, team members, and stakeholders.

Other Requirements:

  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of health and safety standards relevant to mechanical engineering and the ability to implement safety protocols.

  • Legal Compliance: Familiarity with local building codes, industry regulations, and environmental standards.

  • Project Management: Experience in managing project timelines, resources, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Advanced Degree: A master’s degree or specialized training in a specific area of mechanical engineering can be advantageous.

  • Professional Memberships: Membership in professional organizations, such as the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) or the Kenya Association of Mechanical Engineers (KAME), is often preferred.
